Uruguayan camera and forecasting company Lineup has acquired Argentine camera and forecasting company Freewaves for an undisclosed amount, they reported in a press release.

With the acquisition, Lineup will go from having a presence in two to eight countries and from 27 to more than 70 cameras, and will add to its visits some 27 thousand users who come from the Freewaves platform.

“This positions us as leaders in Latin America in terms of country coverage. At the same time, it gives us an excellent perspective for growth in the future,” said Fabián Fernández, CEO of the company.

According to the press release, “Lineup will now have a presence in eight Latin American countries, making it the company with the greatest geographic coverage in the surf camera and forecasting sector in Latin America.”

Freewaves cameras are expected to migrate and be available in the Lineup by the end of November. In addition to those already in operation in Uruguay and Brazil, those from Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Peru from the Argentine company will also be available.

Freewaves was founded in 2011 and its head, Francisco Mazzarella, is optimistic about the transaction: “We never imagined, when we created our tool in 2011, that we would go so far and how the way of searching for waves or looking at beach conditions would change in the following years. Today we have a solid and established platform among our users, and with Lineup a new window of opportunity opens up to continue advancing and building together. We are joining forces with the goal of continuing to provide a high-quality service for the large Latin community that practices water sports,” adds Mazzarella.
