Venezuelan longboarder Mariana Bermúdez qualified for the 2019 Lima longboarding event after Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy declined her spot, her country's federation reported.

There were nine eligible longboarders and the next in line according to the results of last year's Pan American surfing games was Bermúdez.

Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy denied her participation because the dates, July 29 to August 5, coincide exactly with the US Open.

“Mariana joins Team Venezuela that will represent us at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima alongside Francisco Bellorin, Rosanny Alvarez, Edimar Luque, Armando Colucci and Francisco Hernández,” the federation wrote on its Instagram account.
