The Venezuelan surfing federation confirmed through a post on its Instagram that it will not attend the ISA World Surfing Games that begin tomorrow in Tahara, Japan, due to “administrative and budgetary reasons on the part of the National Sports Institute.”

The statement also emphasizes the fact that they are aware of the economic situation in the country, but that they consider the final response they received from the IND, headed by Minister Pedro Infante, to be “ineffable.” “This is not a complaint, and it does not serve as an excuse for our organization. It is our responsibility to assume, together with the national leaders, the demands of such a commitment to the nation.”.

The new board of directors of the federation had taken office five months ago and after a competition in early July had preselected Daniel Piña, Rubén Cedeño, Nehomar Romero, Harold Zunino, Carlos Pérez and Santiago García in the men's open and Bárbara Hernández, Rossany Álvarez, Yocelin Aldana and María López in the women's open. Six of them would travel to Japan.

Today it was noted, in the same Instagram post, that those selected are Solange Moreno (who does not appear in the preselection), López, Zunino, Pérez, Romero and García (there are four men and two women, when the ISA Open team must be three per gender).

PRESS RELEASE The FVS informs the country that our attendance at the ISA WORLD SURFING GAMES will not be possible due to administrative and budgetary reasons on the part of the National Institute of Sports. Our Olympic route is extremely fragile. We fulfilled our duty to the country, to the athletes and to the moral duty of making a plural and safe call for all the athletes of the national flag bearer, inside and outside our territory. However, we built our dream with the greatest of our ambitions, our only resource in these first 3 months was the objective diligence and constant perseverance to carry out all the bureaucratic processes that are the responsibility of other spheres. We appreciate the resources provided to the selection and we understand the economic situation that covers the nation affecting each sector of our society, however we consider the final response by the National Institute of Sports led by Minister Pedro Infante ineffable. This is not a complaint, and it does not serve as an excuse for our organization. It is our responsibility to assume, together with the national leaders, the demands of such a commitment to the nation. We reiterate that we received a bankrupt organization, without resources, without activity for three years, in debt to international organizations and which ultimately complicated our participation in a decisive manner. We vehemently assume the task of raising and dignifying the sport of our community in the knowledge of these difficulties. We will continue working for the dreams and to provide opportunities to athletes from the national and international territory with the same equal conditions. Bravo boys! Keep striving and preparing. @covofficial @pinfantea @puntoolimpico @indeporteve - - - #fvsurf #surfvzla #venezuela

With this, Venezuela will have to seek qualification for Lima 2019 through the Pan American Surfing Games that will also take place in Peru between December 1 and 9. The four places that are first in the hierarchy and that come from these World Surfing Games will be available to the rest of the countries of the Pan American Surfing Association.
