Venezuela secured the gold medal in men's shortboard and qualification for Lima 2027
Either Nono Pereira or JJ López will win the event and the provisional ticket to the Pan American Games

The Venezuelans will win gold in the men's open at Santo Domingo 2026 and have also secured a place in Lima 2027.
Nono Pereira and JJ López made it to the gold final, and with that, there's no way the champion won't be from Venezuela.
Furthermore, this means that a Venezuelan will take the male quota that this event offers for Lima 2027.
While it may happen that, since the hierarchy of this tournament is not the highest, another Venezuelan may achieve a higher quota and leave this space unused, if a medal quota is achieved that grants the possibility of two from the same country going, in that case there will be two Venezuelans in Lima 2027.
If the spot is obtained at the World Surfing Games, the one from this event will go to Gian Marco Oliva from the Dominican Republic or Sam Reidy from Costa Rica, who will fight for the bronze today.
