The new authorities of the Chilean surfing federation confirmed the former Venezuelan professional surfer and former world master champion, Magnum Martínez as coach of the Chilean shortboard surfing team, they reported on their website.

They also confirmed their confidence in the national team manager, Boris Febre, and the sports psychologist Jaime Mestre.

In addition, they hired Arica coach Gerald Álvarez to provide “technical support.”

The decision was taken unanimously by the board of directors.

“We believe it is important, out of respect and consideration for the athletes who have been preparing for several months, as well as for the technical team, to keep the process moving. We know that the demands are high and we must speed up the process with a view to future commitments and especially the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games; for this reason, we are already evaluating concrete actions that reinforce the work of the athletes and the technical team, who have performed very professionally and have the trust of this board of directors,” said Matías Alvarez, the new president of the federation.

"The intensive work plan to be developed will be announced soon, in order to define, among the pre-selected players, the final list that will finally travel to El Salvador to represent Chile in the World Cup next May," the statement added.
