Peruvians Gabriel Villarán and Adrián García managed to pass their round 2 heats of the Volcom Pipe Pro, which today contested its first day of the event in small, blown waves that improved throughout the day.

Villarán was solid in his series, strategic when it came to finding the waves that opened and executing good maneuvers. He added 9,23 and left the local Danny Fuller behind.  and Elijah Gates outside, was beaten by just 0,04 by Ian Gentil.

Adrian Garcia's performance was impressive, the young Peruvian showed no signs of intimidation in the big arena and started his series by blasting from the backside and finished it the same way. The announcers talked about Peru and the strength of the Inka Team, but they had no idea who the goofy footer was.

He scored 9,77 to put Noah Beschen in second place, Nate Yeomans in third place and Colombian Giorgio Gomez in fourth place. In the interview after his victory he was composed and friendly, admitting that surfing Pipe with three other people was a dream.

Now the two Peruvians will meet in round 3, facing each other in the same series with Californian Nolan Rapoza and young local Wyatt McHale.

The one who did not have the pace of his compatriots was Sebastián Correa, who needed the sea to be gigantic to be able to pass his series, the first of round 2.

It was teased on the webcast that things could get interesting at Banzai tomorrow, with waves breaking between 6 and 10 feet and a good wind direction.

The challenge was then to get through the day of relatively bad waves to be able to enjoy the dream Pipe with three other people in the water.

The best performance of the day was by Sheldon Paishon in the last series of the day, 15,10 which he obtained for landing two tubes. Another who broke the mark was Shayden Pacarro, who found the best tube of the day.

The action continues tomorrow in what is expected to be a good Pipe.

Young Hawaiian flyer Eli Hanneman took advantage of the conditions and passed his heat. We'll have to see what happens this Sunday. All photos: WSL/Heff/Keoki
Kaito Kino surfs well in solid Pipe and surfs solid in small Pipe.
Danny Fuller couldn't find the heavy Pipe he likes and had to rely on maneuvers. He made it through round 1 but lost in round 2.
Kalani David won her heat thanks to a high-level display of good aerials.
Hawaiian Roberto Grilho surfed well and passed his heat.
Yes, Kai Lenny also rips in small waves and on a small board. The Hawaiian passed his series in the Pipe merrecas.
Shayden Pacarro was the first to find a legitimate tube at Pipe, scoring over eight points on it and moving on to Round 3 first. As seen in this photo and the cover photo, the waves kept getting better.
