WSL buys NLand wave pool in Texas

Wavegarden technology will be removed and it is presumed that the property will be used to develop another Kelly wave

The World Surf League has purchased the NLand Surf Park, a wave pool in Austin, Texas, for an undisclosed sum, US media reported in the last few hours.

“The World Surf League has acquired the land and assets of NLand in Austin, Texas. More information will be made available at the appropriate time,” the WSL told Surfline.

According to Surfline and Beachgrit, rumors among those close to the transaction are that the 160-hectare property will be used to replicate Surf Ranch, the Wavegarden technology that has been used until now will be removed and Kelly Slater's technology will be installed.

The transaction, according to public records, was finalized in late December and was signed by Austin Park LLC (NLand, seller) and Tumbleweed Opco, a newly created company owned by Kelly Slater Wave Company.

According to the ATX Real Estate website, the tax value of the property and assets within the NLand Surf Park was almost five million dollars. The sale is presumed to have been for a much higher value than that.

NLand's seller, Doug Coors, heir to the multimillion-dollar brewery that bears his name, had shareholders worried that the pool was apparently losing appeal to its Waco neighbor, BSR Cable Park. The sale, it seems, is a perfect fit for him.
