WSL cancels French leg of Challenger Series

There will be seven tests that will qualify for the CT; the best four will be added to the ranking

The French leg of the challenger series, the Quik Pro France, which was scheduled for October in Hossegor and surrounding areas, was cancelled due to the tournament being financially unviable, the WSL announced in a statement sent to the press.

Based on this, it was determined that there will be seven stages of the challengers and that therefore they will add up to four for the final ranking score.

The WSL CEO, who in a recent interview said that the organization's revenues are 20% higher than before the pandemic and who assured surfers in a letter that with this format the sport is growing, declared: “We are disappointed (by the announcement) (…) We were not able to secure the appropriate support to make the event financially sustainable (…) We are actively committed to returning to France in 2023.”

With this, the US Open, which starts this week, will be joined by the tournaments of Ericeira, Saquarema and Haleiwa to determine those who qualify for the CT.
