WSL did not request permission for Mavericks and the event is once again in doubt
There is concern among local authorities and there is a lack of responses from the WSL

The World Surf League has not yet filed for permits to hold the big wave tour event at Mavericks and authorities and surfers alike are beginning to question the organization of the event for the 2019-2020 season, NBC reported yesterday.
After Titans of Mavericks went bankrupt, the WSL managed to obtain permission to hold the tournament. It was not held last year and there is great expectation that it will be held next season in the northern hemisphere.
According to officials, the process for obtaining the other permits takes about six months. Sabrina Brennan, president of the San Mateo Harbor Commission, said: “People are starting to talk, there are rumors, even from within the WSL that they would not be doing the event this season.” She added: “I am concerned and I won’t say I’m disappointed yet because I don’t have enough information but I feel like things are not being organized the way they should be.”
Asked what signals she had received from the WSL, she said none.
NBC reached out to the WSL but did not receive a response. Sources told the outlet that the event has become too expensive for sponsors because of the equal pay and the various agencies involved that also have to be paid for.
