WSL plans to move the start of the tour to Duranbah

There is no sandbar at Snapper and the well-known beach break is a very clear option for the first CT of the year.

The WSL is considering using the Duranbah beach break just minutes from Snapper Rocks for the first stage of the world circuit, the Quik Pro and the Boost Mobile Pro, the organization announced on its Instagram.

According to one of the founders and best known Gold Coast venues, Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew, the arrival of Cyclone Oma combined with other weather factors meant that there was no sand on the usual bank at Snappers and therefore Durabah, which has been breaking incredibly, is being highly regarded.

“Recent weather conditions have compromised the sand situation at Snapper. D-bah is an option for the opening event of the CT on April 3. We are two days away from the Quiksilver Pro and the Boost Mobile Pro Gold Coast and the surfers are already back in South Queensland, Australia,” the statement said.

“While we are hopeful that the situation will improve in the coming days, the possibility of plenty of on-air action on ‘D’Bah’ has everyone excited for the start of the year,” Bartholomew said.

Stab reported that one of the participants, Jack Freestone, said there is a 20-foot hole in front of the famous entrance to Snappers.

One of the implications of the change, as it is a complete state change from Queensland to New South Wales, will be the time change to one hour earlier.

There will also be commercial implications for the WSL as the Queensland state government is a long-standing sponsor of the tournament.

Duranbah is the northernmost beach in New South Wales and has been photographed and filmed countless times in various surfing videos. The wave has barrel and aerial sections and is very consistent.
