Waiting period announced for Eddie 2023-2024

Opening ceremony on December 8, window runs from December 14 to March 12

The Eddie Aikau Foundation announced that the waiting period for the 2023-2024 edition runs from December 14 to March 12 and that the opening ceremony will be on December 8.

The possibility of holding the championship for two consecutive years has also been confirmed, something very unusual in its history, which in its almost 40 years has been held 10 times and only on two occasions in consecutive years (85 and 86 and 2001 and 2002).

“We will be watching the ocean closely, hoping that conditions are perfect for this exciting event. Get ready for an unforgettable big wave season and stay tuned for more news and updates,” the statement on Instagram said.

One of the comments on the post has Mark Healey saying: “Two Eddies in a row?” and using the hashtag #ElNiño.

The Eddie was previously held under the sponsorship of Quiksilver, but this relationship ended in 2016, after the penultimate edition, which was won by John John Florence.

The first independent Eddie was held in January of this year and was won by local lifeguard Luke Shepardson.
