Wavegarden got angry and sent a statement to combat what it claims is false information
“We wanted to address this misinformation for the sake of clarity and concrete facts. After all, we invent technologies, not stories,” said founder and owner Josema Odriozola.
“Wavegarden is responding to rumours and misinformation about our surf parks. At Wavegarden we get frustrated when we hear and read a diverse range of misinformation circulating that causes confusion and uncertainty. To help more people enjoy surfing, the industry needs transparency, not false and misleading information,” reads a statement created by the Basque wave pool company that was sent to the press.
The link leads to a website where in highlighted letters: “We invent technologies, not stories” and they clarify point by point issues that are totally foreign to the common surfing public but that within the history of wave parks will resonate in corridors and conversations in the industry.
“Wavegarden’s data is taken from full-scale operational installations, not theoretical design plans, and is compiled by engineers, not salespeople,” reaffirmed Josema Odriozola, founder and CEO of Wavegarden. “Our goal is to build trust and fair competition in the surf park sector by publishing only accurate data.”
The statement added: “However, that goal has been compromised by rumours about Wavegarden technology. 'We wanted to address this misinformation head on for the sake of clarity and hard facts. After all, we make up technologies, not stories.'”
And they point out all of the following as false:
- False: Wavegarden Cove lagoons must be emptied every year to perform essential maintenance work on the wave generating equipment.
- False: Wavegarden Cove machines have moving parts in the water which makes maintenance more complex.
- False: Alaïa Surf Park had to close due to cracks in the concrete
- False: Several Wavegarden Cove facilities had to close for days due to technology issues.
- False: Wavegarden's claim that they are 10 times more energy efficient than comparable pneumatic systems is not correct.
- False: Aerial waves in Wavegarden Cove lagoons require the installation of a foreign object at the bottom of the lagoon
- False: Wavegarden Cove lagoons need more water than other surf lagoons
