Who is Alex Suárez, the new leader of the ALAS circuit?
From zero to 100 in a tournament. “This victory allows me to get some help,” says the Montañita local
The second stage of the Latin tour that concluded yesterday in Tortuga Bay, Galapagos, had plenty of favorites, including world champions, Latin champions and champions from different nations, but the winner was none of those.
Alex Suárez is a talented 18-year-old from Montañita who surfs the famous right-hand beach break more than the point, which is why he surely excelled with his aerials and powerful maneuvers on the beach break on Santa Cruz Island.
In a brief chat, the Ecuadorian shares a little about his life.

Where are you from, how old are you, what do you do and what waves do you like to surf?
I'm from Manglaralto, Santa Elena, I'm 18 years old and I surf. The waves I like are the beach break and the Montañita point.
How do you feel about the win? Did you have faith in yourself to reach the top of the podium before the tournament started?
I feel happy and content and thank God and all the people who help me. I did have faith in myself to win because my coach followed me and motivated me to get to where we both wanted to be.

Did the beach break waves at Tortuga help you win? In other words, are you a specialist in beach breaks or do you do better on other types of waves?
I like to surf the Montañita beach break and it is similar to Tortuga Bay and thank God I was able to get some good waves to build my score series after series and thus advance to the final.
What was the most difficult series?
Against the Cat Chila.
How is your career going now?
Now I'm going to train more, dedicate myself more... This victory allows me to get some help to make my trips possible, represent my country and give it my all..
