Who would have set foot in Tokyo 2020 if the 2018 WSG were treated as if they were this year's?
An exercise worth keeping in mind for everything that is to come

If the World Surfing Games that qualify for Tokyo 2020 had been last year's, the following surfers would have set foot in Tokyo 2020:
Through Africa
Men's quota: David Van Zyl (RSA)
Women's quota: Bianca Buitendag (RSA)
Through Asia
Men's quota: Shun Murakami (Kanoa Igarashi would guarantee the slot reserved for the local and
Women's quota: Hinako Kurokawa (partially, by occupying the slot reserved for the local, she would give way to the next in the ranking), who would be Ren Hashimoto. The two Japanese would complete the Japanese quota (and would be subject to what happens at the 2020 World Surfing Games, which have a higher hierarchy).
Through Oceania
Men's quota: Billy Stairmand (who placed 21st in the event – Australians were not considered because they will qualify through the CT which has more hierarchy).
Female quota: Paige Hareb would be using it at the moment because she is not getting into the games due to the CT.
Across Europe:
Men's quota: Gony Zubizarreta (ESP)
Women's quota: Pauline Ado (FRA)
It is worth noting that this year's World Surfing Games will be very different because the strong nations will travel armed to the teeth, as they were forced to go with their CT members.
This is expected to lower the number of those expected to qualify through this means, that is, there will be more qualifiers like Billy Stairmand, who ranked 21st and hypothetically put one foot in Tokyo 2020.
It is also important to clarify that no qualifier can be determined with absolute certainty until the 2020 World Surfing Games, which qualifies four men and six women. That event has more hierarchy than the 2019 event.
On the other hand, at the level of America this tournament has no Olympic consequences because the region's qualifiers were partially determined in Lima 2019.
