Canarian Iballa Ruano made it to the final of the main SUP Surfing event for women today on the third day of competition at the ISA World Championships taking place in Riyue Bay, China.

Ruano, who had just won her first two heats, placed second in round 3, behind Yuuka Horikoshi of Japan and ahead of Americans Emmy Merrill and Candice Appleby.

“I’m excited to have made it to the final day,” Iballa Ruano told the ISA. “It’s been a long three days of competition but we’ve had some really good waves so I’m really happy with the conditions. It’s been one of the best events I’ve ever participated in. There’s still a long way to go but winning the gold medal would be a dream come true.”

The main event final will see Ruano take on Brazilian Nicole Pacelli, New Zealand's Stella Smith and Japan's Yuuka Horikoshi.

Meanwhile, in the men's category, Andalusian Juan de los Reyes started the day badly but finished it well. He fell to the repechage in a series in which he fell a lot off the table, but he finished the day doing aerials and passing three rounds, reaching the 7th, two steps away from the grand final and the medals.

Oscar Ruiz and Alazne Aurekoetchea were eliminated in the fourth round of the repechage.

With this, Spain finished the day in third place in the partial team ranking, behind the United States and Australia.

Tomorrow the champions of the surfing divisions will be determined.
