World Adaptive Surfing Championship to be held in March in California

Name changed to AmpSurf ISA World Para Surfing Championship

The world championship of adapted surfing, now called AmpSurf ISA World Para Surfing Championship, will take place between March 11 and 15 in La Jolla, California, the press department of the International Surfing Association announced today in a press release.

The 2019 edition of the tournament did not take place due to a significant accumulation of world events at the end of the year (open world, juniors and SUP), according to the ISA, and therefore it is now being resumed and the fifth world event of the discipline will be held.

In 2018, the last edition of this event, 120 athletes from 24 nations gathered together, and the ISA has established that they will take this as a basis for next year's event.

The new name is definitely in line with the ISA's ambitions to bring adaptive surfing to the Paralympic and Pan American Games.

The release also reports on the ISA's partnership with AmpSurf, "an Adaptive Surfing organization established to promote, inspire, educate and rehabilitate all people with disabilities and their families through adaptive surfing and other outdoor activities."

“The ISA is proud to host this World Para Surfing Championship for the fifth time. The growth and visibility of the event has inspired a global Para Surfing movement, creating new opportunities and access for para surfers. This event is especially close to our hearts as part of our goal to create a global platform of universal access for the sport and in promoting a better world through Surfing,” said ISA President Fernando Aguerre about the upcoming event.
