Three-time world champion Izzi Gómez will now compete for Colombia
Just like his brother did three months ago, he is leaving the United States and his main objective will be to get into Lima 2019 and Tokyo 2020.
Three-time world champion in Stand Up Paddle and also medalist of the International Surfing Association, Izzi Gómez, will stop competing for the United States and will do so for Colombia, the president of the Colombian Surfing Federation, Andrés Porras, informed DUKE.
On March 15, his older brother, Giorgio, a prominent SUPer and professional surfer, made the same announcement.Curiously, today, on the day of the independence of the United States, information about Izzi arrives from the Colombian federation after the International Surfing Association approved the request for a change of nationality.
“The Colombian Surfing Federation is very pleased with the ISA’s acceptance of Isabela Gómez’s change of nationality. Izzi will now join our ranks as an athlete in the national team with a view to participating in the World Shortboard Championship and the World SUP Championship. She will also be part of the selection for this year’s Pan American Surfing Games, which are qualifiers for Lima 2019. We hope to give her all the support that this athlete needs to reach her goal of Olympic qualification,” said Porras in contact with DUKE.
Thus, to the announcement made yesterday by Costa Rica, which also added a world champion, the Hawaiian Brisa Hennessy, one more has been added.
Olympic surfing fever is in the air and it's feeling stronger than ever.
