Alonso Correa was one wave of 5,3 away from making it to the Olympic gold medal series after losing to local Tahitian Kauli Vaast by a narrow score of 10,96 to 9,6.
“I tried, I did the best I could and there is nothing I can do about it,” said the Peruvian after coming out of the water. When analyzing the series, he said: “It is what it is, really. I think the opportunities were very few. Maybe if I didn’t go away in that last one where I did three, I would have been in priority for Kauli’s last one, but at that moment I was more consistent and I thought I would be able to change scores.”
Regarding the challenge ahead of her, going for bronze but still hoping for gold, she said: “I’m fine, nothing is wrong. I did the best I could. In the end, I think if I had one more chance or one more wave or one more barrel, I would have fought harder. I was there, I had one, I was close, and I’ll stick with that. I’ll learn for the next heat, I already know more or less what they like, what they’re scoring and see if the game is played a little better in the next one.”
On how historic it would be to win the bronze that is now ahead of him, he said: “We are going to fight for it, to try.”
Finally, when asked if he prefers Medina or Robinson, he said: “It doesn't matter anymore, whoever it is, it doesn't matter.”

He already has two stages that count strongly towards reaching the top 12, and one of them was in what on paper is his weakest wave; he has three opportunities to make a splash in conditions that suit him better.
