True to his instinct when the sea is rough, Basque Aritz Aranburu won the barrel event, Perfect Chapter, which took place yesterday on the beach of Carcavelos, Portugal.

Aranburu had been a finalist in February 2020 and this time it was his turn to take home the trophy. On that occasion he had won the award for the best wave of the event and in that department, he repeated yesterday.

In the grand final of the event, the Basque defeated the legendary American Cory López in second, the local Pedro Boonman in second and the Hawaiian living in Portugal, Kiron Jabour in fourth.

“It is very special to surf here in Carcavelos, with the support of the public so close by. The level was incredible, everyone surfed great barrels. I am happy to win the championship, which has perfect waves and with such good level surfers,” said Aritz Arunburu after leaving the final.

On his Instagram, the Basque thanked the people who joined him at the event.

The Basque had been surfing heavy waves in Ericeira the previous week, alongside Gony Zubizarreta, Miguel Blanco, Nic Von Rupp and William Aliotti, and had a very heavy session that he called a dream.
