Aritz on his trip to Tahiti: “It was an epic few days”
After about five months, the Basque was reunited with his beloved heavy waves; “he knows well the fact of feeling a bit of that tension again,” he told DUKE
Out of nowhere and celebrating his 35th birthday, Aritz Aranburu appeared in Tahiti on August 30, thanking everyone for spending his day in paradise, he posted on his Instagram.
A few days earlier he had won the vice-championship of the Pantín Classic, with a twin fin and he told DUKE about his quarantine and what came after. He said nothing about his secret birthday plan.
Now, after the bombs were lowered, he said: “It was a short but intense trip. We were really looking forward to doing it after a long time without catching strong waves.”
“So, I went to Tahiti with Leo (Fioravanti) for a swell, with the Quik team, with Kauli who lives there. It has been an epic few days, with powerful waves, a big swell came in and we tried to make the most of the days we were there, so the truth is that it is good to feel a bit of that tension again,” he added.
“It has been good to better prepare for winter now,” he concluded.
In his post, already at the pumps, he dedicated words of love to Teahupoo: “You never disappoint,” and thanked the locals, appreciating having shared time with Leo Fioravanti and Kauli himself.
