Balaram Stack and Molly Picklum won the new Pipe Masters
The tournament concluded yesterday, Sunday, in small waves for Backdoor
New Yorker Balaram Stack and Australian Molly Picklum took the reins of the renewed and also controversial 2022 edition of the Pipe Masters, which concluded yesterday in medium to small waves, under a storm in Mecca.
The new edition of the tournament struggled with the conditions over the three days it was held but had several moments of brilliance with several good tubes but none of them epic.
One of the best moments, or at least the one that transcended the most, was Carissa Moore's tube for Backdoor on day 2, in which the Hawaiian is spit out of a deep and violent barrel.
Stack took home the $100.000 prize by being consistent in the grand final, beating Griffin Colapinto in second place, Kaulana Apo in third and Joao Chianca in fourth.
Meanwhile, Picklum beat Bettylou Sakura-Johnson in second place, Caity Simmers in third and Carissa Moore in fourth.
For the victory, both received a juicy check for $100.000.
Mexican Alan Cleland, the only Spanish speaker in the event, finished the tournament in 30th place, scoring 12,3 points in his two best waves.
