The new Filipe Toledo, quieter, more likeable, heavier and with a surfing that reinforced his fundamentals and left innovation a little behind, received his first victory of the year today after being the best in the Margaret River Pro.
Something similar happened with a more mature Tatiana Weston who has also known how to stop in those well-projected bottom turns that end in explosive movements.
With this, in Western Australia, the men's event was their third victory of the year out of three contested events, three out of four if we consider the Pipe Masters and the first women's event, after a victory by Carissa, another by Tyler and another by Caroline.
With the aforementioned base, Toledo defeated Italo Ferreira in the quarterfinals, who was quite unstoppable, a consistent Matthew McGillivray in the semis and Jordy Smith in the final.
The decision was decided by 17,4 to 14,23.
With this result, the men's top 5 was as follows:
1 - Gabriel Medina (BRA) 28,920 pts
2 – Italo Ferreira (BRA) 24,150 pts
3 - Filipe Toledo (BRA) 20,735 pts
4 – John John Florence (HAW) 19,395 pts
5 - Jordy Smith (ZAF) 19,185 pts

Among the ladies, Carissa Moore's incredible form met a sharp Steph Gilmore who knocked her out in the semis.
In the grand final, Tatiana Weston's backside attack was on point, managing to attack some very heavy sections and finishing off some very powerful maneuvers after drawing long bottom turns.
Gilmore was left needing a 9,4 at the end of the heat, she surfed a good right but Tatiana had set a very high standard and was given an 8,17.
The final result was 16,23 to 15. And with this result the top 5 looks like this:
1 – Carissa Moore (HAW) 29,970 pts
2 - Tatiana Weston Webb (BRA) 26,495 pts
3 – Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) 22,035 pts
4 - Caroline Marks (USA) 21,305 pts
5 – Tyler Wright (AUS) 19,965 pts
