Seventeen-year-old Californian Caitlin Simmers has just secured her place in the WSL finals, becoming the youngest in history to do so, in the third edition to be held in September in Lower Trestles, California.

Simmers secured her place at the Tahiti Pro only after the last person who could mathematically surpass her, the current world champion, Stephanie Gilmore, was defeated by Caroline Marks.

Now, with the final ranking of the top 5 competing in the final five still to be determined, it is known that in addition to Simmers, there will be: Carissa Moore, Tyler Wright, Caroline Marks and Molly Picklum.

The big question and attraction for the finals is who will be the second American surfer in Paris 2024: it could be Simmers or Marks. The Australians, as there are two, have already qualified: Picklum and Wright.

If Steph Gilmore was still at the event, Picklum's spot would not have been determined.

Molly Picklum is guaranteed a spot in Paris 2024.
