Caity and Italo won in Saquarema
The Californian guaranteed herself a place in the final 5 and the Brazilian took a giant step towards being part of it.
Caitlin Simmers and Italo Ferreira won Stage 8 of the World Surfing Tour which took place at Itaúna Beach, Saquarema Brazil on fun waves before a crowd of about 30.000 people as counted by announcer Joe Turpel.
Simmers beat another Californian, Sawyer Lindblad, in the all-young final to claim her second consecutive Rio title and her third win of the year to secure her place in the finals and move some 100 points clear of second place Caroline Marks.
Tied for third place were Tatiana Weston Webb and Gabriela Bryan.
The women's ranking was as follows after the stage:

Meanwhile, among the men, there was a 100% Brazilian final with an Italo who did aerials and the judges appreciated them well.
The result put him in the top 5 with one stage remaining.
There is very little difference between fourth and eighth place, so the final 5 will be decided in Fiji.
