Possible change for the Fiji finals

The WSL believes that if the top seed wins the first match, it will take home the world championship, according to Brazilian outlet AOS Mídia.

Brazilian outlet AOS Mídia reported that in the finals of this play-off format, which will take place in Fiji between August 27 and September 4, the decisive matchup could come down to a single victory if it goes to the ranking leader.

The outlet indicates that this is a rumor circulating behind the scenes at the WSL.

But they clarify that this is "a rumor that AOS Media has been hearing since the beginning of the year in conversations around the world."

Basically, it would give the ranking leader a bit more advantage, which goes hand in hand with the changes the tour has undergone, and which will be taking place in 2026.

If the leader doesn't win the first match, then two more heats would be surfed and whoever wins two would be world champion.
