Dane Reynolds to design his own line of suits

He signed with Buell to develop what they called “Subdivision”; they will be available next year

One of the most influential surfers on the planet, Californian Dane Reynolds, has signed with the Californian wetsuit brand, Buell, to develop a line of wetsuits that he will design himself, according to various specialized media outlets, the brand and the surfer himself on social media.

After parting ways with Quiksilver about 10 years ago, the Santa Barbara local had not signed with any wetsuit company, even denying a $100.000 offer, Stab reports.

It was not made public what the arrangement between the two parties entailed. Reynolds posted on his Instagram that after a friendship of several years, they asked him what he wanted in a wetsuit to dream it up and make it a reality. “I gave them guidelines and ideas and the samples came out amazing. It’s all I’ve ever worn. We decided to create a whole collection and call it ‘Subdivision’ which was inspired by what More Core Division was for Gotcha when I was a kid. Look for the suits next year,” Dane wrote.

In his Instagram post, Reynolds outlines his suit plan: Velcro instead of zippers, softness in the chest and back area, little room for logos, no silly marketing, no flashy stuff, and no bullshit.

A 2021/4 and two 3/3 versions will be released in 2.

The founder of the brand, Ryan Buell, in an interview with Shop Eat Surf, says that his business grew by 100% this year, contrary to what has happened with the rest of the brands.

He attributed his growth to having a solid team but mainly to having remained close to the essential values of surfing.

One of the brand's star products in recent years was the flotation impact wetsuit worn by Jamie O'Brien.
