Desert Boy, a magical journey with Kai Gale
“One of the best days of my life (…) it felt like a dream”; great strategist, the young Panamanian and Argentinean went there at the same time as the Padang championship and won
Kai Gale went to Desert Point at the same time as the Padang Padang championship and his strategy worked perfectly. The wave that was once considered the best in the world has managed to attract a lot of crowds since it became known to the world.
But every now and then, Desert has gifts in store for those who visit and have a little luck, like Kai on this day.
“One of the best days of my life surfing-wise,” he says. “This was the same swell that the Padang Padang Cup was getting, which meant there were hardly any crowds at Deserts. There were only five people in the morning this day, it felt like a dream. Long lefts with no one out, are you kidding me? It didn’t take long for me to get into the rhythm of the wave and fall in love with it.”
The goofy footer is seen well in tune with the wave, going one tube after another and as he himself says in the video, he came out of one tube and thought he was done but another one came, and another, and another.
“The people were so genuine and welcoming, we were lucky to stay at Budis, you could really feel the local vibe. It’s going to be hard to top a trip like this. I’m so grateful. Thank you, Desert Point,” he concludes.
