Before Skeleton Bay came along, Desert Point was long considered the best wave in the world: the one that ultimately produces the longest barrels on the planet, one after another, without stopping.

Desert's fame became huge and therefore surfing there was difficult due to the huge amount of people who went to the wave.

Pedro Delbrey flew his drone there for the first time and found that the less crowded days were when Desert was most enjoyable, with fewer people and more chances of getting good tubes.

And as he says, at the end of the day, an average day in the Desert is better than a day anywhere else in the world.

“I was there for 10 days in early June last year. I’ve been to Desert Point a few other times and I know how crowded and competitive it can get. And it got epic and packed with people. But what made this trip so special were the days in between where there were only a small handful of people in the water and the waves were still super fun,” Pedro told DUKE.

“It may not be epic by Desert Point standards, but it certainly is by any other wave scale. I flew my drone when I wasn’t surfing and this was actually my first time filming surfing with a drone. I can’t think of a more appropriate wave to shoot with a drone, as it’s virtually impossible to cover the entire length of the wave from land with a tripod. I was there with Gaby Escudero so I ended up shooting him a lot. But I also met and filmed a lot of other great surfers. All in all, a rewarding trip and a great experience. It felt good to be back in Indonesia!” he added.
