The DUKE Podcast, Episode 3: Maximiliano "El Duende" Cross

The King of Reñaca, a young Chilean surfing rebel turned responsible family man

For several years now, Maximiliano “el Duende” Cross has been considered the main international representative of Reñaca surfing, and he is also one of the main Chilean representatives.

On the beach, during the ALAS tournament that just ended, his arrival before each series raised the vibe,  There were cheers coming from all directions. He was clearly the local favorite and ended up winning the tournament.

Now married and with an eight-month-old daughter, living in a very nice little house overlooking Sector 5 of Reñaca, the beach where he became a professional surfer, his organized life contrasts with the rebellious years that also made him famous. His attitude in and out of the water earned him a lot of fans, but also some problems.

In this conversation he goes through those years and looks back on them without regret, but rather as a stage. He also goes through his beginnings, a super mother who brought him the board so that after he left school he could surf.

The board was waiting in a branch of Banco de Chile, a Chile and Banco de Chile that is a very proper, very classic place. That board was certainly in contrast with the atmosphere.

A child who had to deal with a huge hyperactivity that caused him several behavioral problems and ended up with him being expelled from many schools.

That energy was what finally made him do it because it ended up being channeled into the sea, the sea that gave him the answer to all his questions.

In this little more than an hour of conversation, a new edition of the DUKE podcast.
