Ethan Ewing and Tyler Wright won at Bells

Joao Chianca is the new leader, Picklum remains on top among the ladies

Forty years after his mother, Helen Lambert, won at Bells, Ethan Ewing achieved the historic feat of following in the bloodline and also ringing the Bell after beating Ryan Callinan in the grand final.

Tyler Wright repeated his victory in the women's category, beating Molly Picklum in the grand final and climbing to second place in the rankings.

With Filipe losing in the semis against Ewing (he needed to win), the Brazilian Joao Chianca, who had lost in the round of 16, took the yellow lycra from the leader of the ranking.

It was a day of small waves at Winkipop, the most striking moment of the day was the show of reactions that took place after Jackson Baker, needing an 8,5 in the quarterfinals, surfed a good right that he celebrated and that was later worth 9 points.

Filipe responded with a mediocre wave in which he did a small curve, a curve and a small reverse.

While waiting for her score, the judges took quite a while, Toledo questioned whether Baker's score was a nine, speaking to her friends and the cameras broadcasting the event, she said: “Um nove” and said in English looking at the footage “A nine?”…

And then when they gave him a 7, he said, “I even got a 7 for that wave,” as if to say it was worth less than that.

With this result, the partial top five has Chianca, Robinson, Toledo, Ewing and Colapinto in that order.

At the women's level there are now: Picklum, Wright, Moore, Simmers and Weston-Webb.

Costa Rica's Hennessy is now 12th, outside the qualifying zone and Carlos Muñoz is now 30th, far from the cut and needing a miracle in Margaret River.

Meanwhile, this stage served to determine the first ones that were guaranteed for the second half of the year. They are:
