Filipe Toledo: “Teahupoo is a wave where you have to be extremely careful”

“It exists, that fear exists, I have no way of denying it,” said the two-time world champion in an article published by Globo

Two-time world champion Filipe Toledo said that “Teahupoo is a wave where you have to be extremely careful” and added: “It exists, that fear exists, I can't deny it.” He did so in Interview given to Globo, which covers the lives of various Brazilian Olympic athletes.

“Teahupoo is a wave where you have to be extremely careful, a little more dedicated, focused, respectful because it is somewhat intimidating, it is a wave that hurts you, we have seen countless accidents there, I have already had an accident there. So… It exists, that fear exists, I cannot deny it,” he said in the brief section in which he referred to the wave.

Toledo said that he watched the previous Olympic Games on television and that now his chance to go for the gold medal has arrived.

Filipe's record at Teahupoo is not good. His best result was a third in a tournament that featured mostly small waves.

After retiring from the tour in February and saying he would focus on the Olympics, Filipe spent a week in Tahiti training at a CBS camp prior to the CT there.
