Perfect, long, point-break lefts and several of the best surfers on the continent surfing them with a maximum of four people in the water.

Sol Aguirre

The three-time WSL regional champion grew up in northern Peru where perfect lefts abound. She has a lethal backside attack that, with Tongo Reef working and her in a good spot, makes it hard to think she will be beaten.

Dominic Barona

Although Mimi's strength is forehands and backside attacks on them, she is the big local star of this championship and her experience in QS tournaments will speak loudly when it comes to competing.

Being the favorite of the local fans does good for her surfing and could be key to giving her the victory.

Manuel Selman

Selman is coming off a stage win in the Dominican Republic where a good part of the tournament was played on perfect lefts like those at Tongo Reef. He is used to point breaks and his clean surfing that combines strong, classic maneuvers with radical, modern moves puts him on the list of favorites.

Miguel Tudela

Tudela grew up in the land of pointbreaks and he gets along very well with those that break to the left. In fact, in the QS 3000 in Barbados on a wave similar to Tongo Reef, the Peruvian got onto the podium. He combines modern maneuvers with powerful classic moves; on that track that is Tongo Reef, he can stand out.

Gabriel André

The Brazilian is coming off a podium finish at the QS in Argentina; he is very good with lefts, he is fast, powerful and modern. In 2016 he won that The Search event in Chile, in Caleta Pellines, a perfect left pointbreak similar to Tongo.

He has what it takes to win.
