There will be plenty of waves for the first leg of the CT and perhaps the second, but the wind will be a challenge, Surfline's chief forecaster Kevin Wallis said on his Instagram.

“We are less than a week away from Pipe Pro and there is a lot of swell lining up in the medium and long term. This is thanks to elevated storm activity in the Western North Pacific that will take place over the next two weeks. The dominant direction of the incoming swells is west-northwest to northwest, an excellent angle for Pipe and Backdoor,” he wrote.

He added: “The first images show a storm that is expected to develop and enter Hawaii in a few days, probably forming a solid west-northwest swell that should reach its apex on the 30th (second day of the waiting period). The wind at this time looks unfavorable for the 30th, but may improve on the 31st with the swell decreasing.”

The meteorologist also says that waves will be higher than normal at a time when there is a lot of activity.

He concluded: “There will be a lot of swell but the challenge will be the local wind, not necessarily problematic but probably favourable winds versus offshore winds all day.”
