Historic: Lucca Mesinas qualified for CT 2022

He became the first Hispanic-American man in history to enter the elite of world surfing; according to DUKE's calculations, there is no possible scenario that will take him out of the top 12.

Peruvian Lucca Mesinas has secured his spot in the 2022 CT according to calculations made by DUKEsurf.com after the round of 32 that took place today in Haleiwa, Hawaii.

There are still seven surfers in the rankings who could surpass Lucca, but three of them, Kalani Ball, Ian Gentil and Billy Stairmand, only surpass him by winning or finishing second, and since there can't be more than one second or more than one first, this leaves Messinas in the situation of not being able to drop any lower than 12th position, which still qualifies him for the tour (considering the two-time qualifiers).

The other surfers still in the competition and who could surpass him with more mediocre results are: Jacob Willcox, Samuel Pupo, Callum Robson and Liam O'Brien.

The WSL has not commented on this, nor has the athlete.

Below are the details of the calculations made by DUKE:
