ISA confirmed: Brisa will be in Paris 2024

Defay, Bonvalot and Weston Webb also entered via CT

Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy, along with Frenchwoman Johanne Defay, Brazilian Tatiana Weston Webb and Portuguese Teresa Bonvalot, have been confirmed for the surfing event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games to be held in Teahupoo from 27 to 29 July, the ISA has just confirmed.

With the WSL CT being the first step in the hierarchy to qualify, there is no way for other nations to qualify.

It could happen that the WSL gives a wildcard for the second half of the year to a surfer from another country who manages to surpass the points of Brisa, Tatiana, Teresa or Johanne, but it seems that the ISA is not considering this possibility.

This way, Costa Rica, Brazil, France and Portugal are guaranteed to participate in the event that will take place in Teahupoo.

The four surfers have already competed in Tokyo 2020 and therefore these will be their second games.

"Even with only four WSL CT events concluded at Pipeline, Sunset Beach, Portugal and Bells, these four women are mathematically assured to finish in the top 8 eligible CT surfers at the end of the 2023 Tour, thereby securing their spots in accordance with the Olympic Qualification System."

All places earned are provisional until final announcement following the close of the ISA World Surfing Games 2024. All places are subject to nomination by the respective National Olympic Committee (NOC) and each surfer meeting the ISA Olympic Eligibility Requirements," the ISA statement said.

“It’s amazing to see these incredible women already securing their spots for Tahiti. What a great way to start the 2023 season. My heartfelt congratulations to Teresa, Brisa, Johanne and Tati, all Tokyo 2020 Olympians, for their excellent achievements. I can’t wait to see who else makes history this year and joins the wave of Teahupo’o and the Olympic Games in Paris,” said ISA President Fernando Aguerre.
