Jack Robinson won in Padang Padang

The young Australian ended the winning streak of the Indonesian hosts and took the most important title of his career so far

Young Australian Jack Robinson did justice to his surfing class today in Bali after riding a ridiculous amount of barrels at Padang Padang, earning him the biggest win of his career. The abundance of heavy, barreling waves was matched by Robinson's ability to win.

The West Australian, the only regular footer in the final, scored 19,9 out of a possible 20 to leave Agus Setiawan, Bol Adi Putra and Mega Semadhi behind.

The result is one of the most prestigious of Robinson's life, who just over a month ago was winning the QS 1500 in Iquique, Chile, and does nothing more than say that he belongs to the CT.

Agus Setiawan came in second, Bol Adi Putra in third and defending champion Mega Semadhi in fourth.

The tournament was epic from every angle. It is worth noting that another Australian, Jacob Willcox, scored 18,90 in the semis and still failed to make it to the grand final (Putra and Setiawan scored 19,05 and 19,85 in that series).

“It was worth the wait,” Robinson said after winning the championship. “This was one of the best events of the year and one of the top three of my life for sure. It’s not a QS or a CT but you compete against the best in the best waves,” he added.

“These were the best waves I have seen at Padang since Jamie O'Brien won the event in 2009. I was a little kid watching and always wanted to be a part of the tournament from that day on. Jamie was a big influence,” he concluded.

Agus Setiawan caught some of the best waves of the day in his semi-final heat 1. He finished the event in second and went home with a suitcase full of tubes.
The final saw three goofy local footers against a regular Australian. Bol Adi Putra, pictured, positioning himself well for the home contingent.
Jacob Willcox's quality in the tubes has been proven for quite some time now, just over a month ago he was runner-up in Arica. Today in Padang he lost in the semis with more than 18 points.
A surfer like Jack Robinson has rarely celebrated an international victory, especially considering the enormous talent he has.
