Australian Jack Robinson won the Billabong Pro Pipeline and is the new leader of the world rankings. He won a tight and complicated final against Italian Leo Fioravanti by 9,17 (6+3,17) to 7,47 (4+3,47).

In a sea that was gradually dropping and deteriorating throughout the day, the men's final experienced the worst conditions of the day, Robinson and Fioravanti exchanged 11 waves of which only four were greater than three points.

The Italian was able to attack a wave that he exited the barrel from and chose not to do so in order to regain priority after a long paddling battle. WSL commentators said that move could have cost him the championship.

Fioravanti needed a 5,18 for more than five minutes but never achieved it.

The ranking leaves Robinson in first, Fioravanti in second, Chianca and Ibelli in third.
