Venezuelan JJ López was crowned champion of the ALAS tour today at the Surf City El Salvador ALAS Pro being held in Las Flores, El Salvador.
Lopez saw all of his main direct opponents lose. First it was Tao Rodriguez, then it was Darshan Antequera and Oscar Urbina's turn, and today, in the fourth round of the quarter-finals, the local Bryan Perez fell to the Peruvian Gabriel Vargas.
Aware of the scenarios, together with his friend Lolo Bellorín, JJ López enjoyed Pérez's series and celebrated when Vargas left him in Combolandia.
He celebrated the end of the series, but when it was made official over the loudspeakers, he let out a shout and continued the celebration.
JJ López joins a series of Venezuelan champions on this tour that began with Magnum Martínez and continued with names like Nono Pereira and Lolo Bellorin.
Now JJ López becomes the first eligible to qualify for Santiago 2023 but with the exception that ALAS is the qualifier with the third hierarchy, this means that if two Venezuelans (including him) manage to qualify through the World Surfing Games 2023 or the Pan American Surfing Games 2023, the ALAS spot goes to the next in the ranking who everything indicates will be Bryan Pérez.
Below is the moment of JJ's consecration:
