John John approved that the WSL final be in Lowers

In an interview with the Olympic Channel, the Hawaiian also said that he prefers winning gold in Tokyo to a third world title.

Two-time world champion John John Florence has expressed his support for the WSL's choice to host the 2021 CT Grand Final at the iconic Lower Trestles break.

In an Instagram Live interview with the Olympic Channel after the consultation, he said that he finds the decision “exciting” because “everyone surfs well there, there are lefts and rights, the wave has the right speed and offers many possibilities allowing for good combinations of maneuvers.”

The conversation touched on several topics, and the Hawaiian came on foot to present his new film, Tokyo Rising, which shows him on his winding path that ended with him narrowly qualifying for the Olympic Games, competing in Pipe with an injury.

John John said that he felt like he couldn't surf Pipeline when he first got on the board after surgery, that if it weren't for the event he wouldn't have surfed and that in fact he then just laid back for a month without surfing.

He said his knee is now “100%” and sometimes gets stiff, but joked that this happens when he surfs for seven hours straight.

"I'm getting to the point where I don't even think about it," he explained.

He finally said that he did not speak to Slater after he left him out of Tokyo 2020, and that he believes the 11-time champion came to greet him and that was how things ended.

Finally, when asked if he would choose a third world title or gold in Tokyo, he chose gold.
