Hawaiian John John Florence will begin his competitive year competing at the already classic Volcom Pipe Pro that takes place in front of his home in Pipeline between January 29 and February 10, the WSL reported on its website.

Florence, who competed at the Pipe Masters in December after returning from a torn ACL suffered in Brazil, has the best record in the event's history, having won it three times and achieving two semi-final finishes and a ninth.

Other heavyweight seeds in the tournament include Jack Robinson, Seth Moniz, Conner Coffin, Yago Dora, Sebastian Zietz and Zeke Lau.

Among the Hispanics registered are Miguel Tudela, Marco Giorgi, Joaquin del Castillo and Aritz Aranburu, pre-qualified in the round of 64; Leandro Usuna, Manuel Selman, Alan Cleland in the round of 96; and Cristobal de Col, Gabriel Villaran, Guillermo Satt, Alvaro Malpartida, Tomas Lopez Moreno and Nicolas Vargas, Dwight Pastrana in the round of 128.

The tournament, previously called HIC Pro and then Monster Energy Pro, is celebrating its eleventh edition alongside the stone brand.

This year it went from being 3000 to 5000 level, so the winner will leave with a good base to make a campaign that qualifies him for the CT 2021.
