Josefina Ané did it again
Facing a minefield of Brazilians, the Argentine won the QS 1000 Itacaré Surf Music Festival, her fourth final and second victory this season on the world tour
Argentine Josefina Ané has just won the QS 1000 Itacaré Music Festival on the waves of Praia da Tiririca in Bahia, where the waves broke with a metre of force and allowed the Mar del Plata native to show off her best surfing skills.
This is the second Argentine victory on Brazilian soil in the last 20 days, two weeks ago Catalina Mercere won the WSL Pro Junior that was held in Santa Catarina. The 1000 points from the victory added 350 more points to Ané's ranking, which will surely put her in the top 50 of the QS.
"I'm very happy to have come in first place, it gives me confidence to finish the year well," said Ané after getting out of the water. "I feel grateful and motivated. The final was difficult, Monik, who is a good athlete. In the end, what you visualize always comes true. I visualized it all week... I had a leg injury during the tough week and I thought I wouldn't compete and in the end I came, competed and won," she added.
This is Argentina's fourth final of the year (two in South Africa and one in Argentina) and second victory.
In the grand final, Ané faced local Monik Santos and beat her by 9,25 to 5,55. On the way to the decision she beat three more Brazilians: Anne dos Santos in round 1, Camila Cassia in the quarterfinals and Yanca Costa in the semis.
Final result
1- Josefina Ané
2- Monik Santos
3- Yanca Costa and Karol Ribeiro
5- Tais de Almeida, Camila Cassia, Tainá Hinckel and Jéssica Anderson.
In the men's category, the victory went to the Brazilian Franklin Zerpa, who won a 100% Brazilian final against Samuel Igo de Souza.
