Josh Kerr won in Maldives
"The most luxurious competition in the world" was won by the Australian. Alejo Muniz finished in a close second place
Australian Josh Kerr won the Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy last weekend, "the most luxurious competition in the world," according to promotional material and several other media outlets that were present at the original event sponsored by the stunning Four Seasons hotel located in the archipelago.
According to the overall standings, Kerr defeated Brazilian/Argentine Alejo Muniz by a tight 2800 points to 2700, which were decided in a grand final that determined the champion.
Kerr took victory in the single-fin and twin-fin events, while the thruster category was won by Hawaiian Fred Patacchia. "The last six to eight months I've only been surfing twins and singles," the Australian said at the start of the event, making him the big favourite.
"This is an incredible event, the waves are getting better day after day (...) I never thought I would tube so much here in the Maldives," Kerr concluded.
