Young American Kirra Pinkerton, current ISA world champion and challenger competitor, painted a dire picture of why surfers have little or no say in opposition to the Paris 2024 tower and the WSL.

Commenting on Koby Abberton's post yesterday, Pinkerton wrote: “I agree with everything you say, but I also think surfers are wise to avoid conflict when it comes to sponsorship. For some it's their only income and if they don't like what we do it can be over.”

She said she doesn’t want to be associated with the Olympic Games organisation but something similar happens with the WSL: “A lot of bad decisions that nobody likes. Or maybe all surfers are arrogant and think they deserve better things? It goes both ways. Everyone is very scared to talk about the WSL too because it’s our only organisation that has been there for us to compete and have a career, or at least it used to be.”

He concluded by explaining that the games will be held no matter what, and stated: “Unfortunately, one person's voice will not be enough; everyone is needed to achieve real change.”

The surfer received several criticisms from Internet users who criticized her for thinking about her pocketbook and not about future generations for the damage to nature.

The original post's author, Abberton, thanked her for her comment and said he supported her:

“As we see surfers today seem to only think about sponsors and the monetary benefits of staying quiet. And it also seems that they allow this because they have forgotten the roots of surfers before us.”
