Californian golden boy Kolohe Andino criticized the WSL in the comments of their latest post which showed John John Florence winning the Pipe Masters yesterday afternoon.

“It’s funny that they promote this event when it’s clearly a slap in the face to the WSL and the title ‘Pipe Masters’. The surfing world we’re enduring is sad and starved for content,” she wrote in the comments, receiving several signs of support from netizens.

The Pipe Masters was an event that appeared on the WSL calendar as a “special event.”

It was an event that under that title was part of the entity's tour but that stopped being so after its former CEO changed the format, which had the Pipe Masters at the end of the year to place the queen of the waves stage at the beginning.

This left the Pipe Masters alone, under Vans ownership.

Vans, meanwhile, announced earlier this year that it would no longer be working with the WSL, ahead of the US Open, which ended up being sponsored by another brand.

Kolohe Andino was left out of the CT this year, failing to make the cut and has been competing in WSL North American regional events.
