Landon McNamara won the Eddie
He became the first goofy in history to win; a drop in the series bomb was key to the victory; Mason placed second, Kemper third and JOB fourth
Hawaiian Landon McNamara won the unforgettable Eddie Aikau Memorial Event on a furious Waimea that featured event-worthy waves throughout the day.
A stuck drop on a very heavy wave in the series was the key to the victory in which he received 50 out of 50 possible points to go to first place, which he backed up with a 43,5 and a 42,3.
McNamara surfed five waves out of eight possible and in his second heat, the afternoon one, he made the real difference. He reached 135,8 out of 150 possible to leave Mason Ho in second place with 120,9, Billy Kemper in third place with 119,9 and Jamie O'Brien in fourth place with 118,9.
Throughout the day, the lead was alternated between Luke Shepardson at the beginning, then a solid performance by JOB took him to first and he stayed there for a while until Billy Kemper passed him and finally, in the same series, Mason Ho and Landon caught the best waves of the event to make it one-two.
The final positions of the event were as follows:
