Lineup, the live camera and wave forecast website, has acquired Buscaolas, a website "a benchmark for surfing in Chile," the company announced in a press release last Friday.
"The agreement includes the acquisition of all of Buscaolas' digital and physical assets—such as its social media, user base, and cameras, among others—which will allow Lineup to accelerate its reach to the Chilean public with an already established community. All Buscaolas cameras will be incorporated into the Lineup network, thus expanding real-time coverage of the country's most iconic beaches," the statement said.
Lineup had just announced the opening of the company in Chile and a few weeks later the company Buscaolas announced that it would close in April.
“We know what Buscaolas means to the Chilean surfing community. This acquisition is not just an integration of products and technology, but a way to honor that legacy and build upon it. We will continue to support Chilean surfers with increasingly powerful tools, without losing the local spirit that made Buscaolas strong. We are convinced that Chile will be one of the key pillars for Lineup's growth in the coming years. This acquisition allows us to accelerate that process, integrating an active and validated community. We continue to invest heavily in the region with a clear strategy: to be the reference platform for surfing in Latin America,” stated Lineup CEO Fabián Fernández.
For his part, Bruno Fournies, general manager and one of the founders of Buscaolas, said: “We are very happy to see this project continue in good hands. We are familiar with Lineup's work, their long-term vision, and their commitment to the surfing community. We believe this is the natural step for Buscaolas to evolve and continue providing value to Chilean surfers.”
His colleague, Cristian Fournies, CTO and co-founder of Buscaolas, added: “Buscaolas was born as an idea between friends who loved surfing and wanted to contribute something to the community. Seeing how that idea now joins Lineup, a leading company throughout the region, fills us with pride. It's recognition of everything we've done and, at the same time, an incredible opportunity for the project to continue growing.”
Lineup emphasizes that the acquisition adds to the agreement they just signed with Bío Bío TV, "which will allow live images from Lineup's cameras to be broadcast on one of the country's leading television channels," which will further strengthen the brand's presence in the Chilean market.
This is Lineup's second acquisition in the region, as Lineup acquired the Argentine website Freewaves in November 2023.
Lineup celebrated surpassing 100 cameras a few months ago, a milestone that has been significantly surpassed with the new acquisition. According to the press release, they will surpass 150 live cameras before the end of the year.
