The powerful South African, the one who jumps off bridges and out of airplanes and surfs powerful waves, has just been crowned an Olympic surfer for the 2024 Paris Games.

Rio Waida was unable to beat John John Florence and the last to qualify by hierarchy 1 of the system was the South African from Port Elizabeth by a very narrow margin.

The final score was 22780 to 22280; those 500 points put the South African in the game.

McGillivray, who had lost in the knockout round to Ian Gentil, left his place at Paris 2024 in God's hands; if Waida advanced, he would be the one to make it to the Games.
