Nathan Florence won the winter wave
The Hawaiian took home $25.000 for a never-ending barrel at Backdoor. Watch it here
The jury, made up of some of the most legendary surfers in Pipe history: Gerry Lopez, Pancho Sullivan, Shawn Briley and Shane Dorian, determined that the best wave surfed this winter season on the North Shore was the following tube at Nathan Florence's Backdoor:
Like every legendary wave, the Hawaiian said that he didn't think he was going to make it, but as he progressed he realized that the tube could give him a way out.
With the win, Florence earned $25.000 and joined the select list that includes Kalani Chapman, Kelly Slater, and Koa Rothman, some of the winners of the winter wave.
In an interview with the American website Surfline, Florence said that he wanted to win the winter wave, especially after his friend Koa Rothman won it last year.
