Five years after lowering it from 20 to 18, it raised it again; in addition, it cancelled this year's world championship in the category

The age limit for WSL juniors has been raised from 18 to 20, the organization announced in a statement published on its website on Wednesday.

“The change will allow young surfers to continue competing at the junior level until they are ready to move up to regional rankings,” explained Commissioner Jessi Miley-Dyer, who added that it also serves to give surfers who missed out on the chance to participate in the category and qualify for the world championships due to the pandemic, a chance.

This change, but absolutely opposite, the drop from 20 to 18, was made by the WSL in 2016.

Another important announcement from the organization was that the aforementioned World Cup was cancelled and will be held in 2022.

The test was originally scheduled to take place from December 4 to 10 at Jinzun Harbour, Taitung, Taiwan.

The points generated this year for qualification will be retained for 2022.
