Peterson Crisanto with one foot (almost both) in the CT 2019
By making it to the round of 16 of the US Open, the Brazilian has already secured 17420 points, which should be more than enough to join next year's elite.
Brazil's Peterson Crisanto practically guaranteed himself a spot in the 2019 CT today after making it to the round of 16 of the US Open of Surfing, which gave him 3700 points that he adds to the 13720 he already has, reaching a seemingly sufficient 17420.
It's not easy to determine the cut-off point for qualification when we're almost halfway through the competitive year, but knowing that this is a very similar season to the previous one, more than 16500 is a comfortable place to be. Michael February, the last to qualify last year (helped by withdrawals), scored 16050. Pat Gudauskas, who didn't need any withdrawals, scored 16400 and Michael Rodrigues 16550.
The WSL has not yet reported it and neither has the surfer himself.
It is worth saying that in his line of five best scores, Crisanto has two easy discards to get rid of, one of 370 and another of 700. And, if he goes through one more series, tomorrow when he faces Jadson André there will be no one to beat him, the classification will be 100% certain.
Crisanto is a magician on small waves. He won in Ballito breaking in beach break conditions, got a good result at the Australian Open, also on small waves, and now in Huntington he is unstoppable.
